When travelling in South Korea, you can use English as a means of communication. Though many Koreans speak English, you may find that many of them struggle to understand English in a real conversation as a result of their limited chance to practice. Also, the locals would appreciate tourists making an effort by having conversations with a words or two in Korean. That way could help enhance your new relationships. It doesn't matter if you make a mistake in pronunciation, grammar - the effort you put in is often greatly appreciated.
