I’m hooked on "Revenant" Kdrama without skipping or fast-forwarding any part of it. It’s so fascinating and I want to catch every detail they reveal.
As my favorite shows (this and "Happiness Battle") have ended, I'm searching for some Kdramas like "Revenant" to fill the gap. Let's see and remember to give your recommendations~~
1. The Cursed (Drama - 2020)
- IMDb: 7.1/10
- iQIYI: 9.2/10
A fearless reporter uncovers a dark secret behind a powerful IT company that relies on shamanism. She teams up with a girl who has a spirit inside her.
I enjoyed the plot of this series, but it got predictable after a while. The cast was amazing and suited their roles well. So Jin was my favorite character and I was curious about her fate. The final episode was a good cliffhanger. I was glad to discover that there are a movie sequel, The Cursed, Dead Man’s Prey, and season 2 this 2023.
2. The Guest (Drama - 2018)
- IMDb: 8.1/10
A psychic, a priest, and a cop team up to stop supernatural crimes. They face evil spirits, exorcisms, and their own doubts.
I like the idea of this drama, but it’s relatively long. We never learn what happens to the victims. They’re just objects to be abused. This should have been a movie, not a series that drags on.
3. Possessed (Drama - 2019)
- IMDb: 6.6/10
A lazy and foul-mouthed detective with a soft heart meets a lonely psychic who hides her ability. Together, they use their special skills to crack cases that no one else can.
It was not a typical Kdrama and that may be why some people didn’t like it. But it dealt with realistic issues and showed how people faced life-or-death choices against an unbeatable foe.
4. The Witch: Subversion (Movie - 2018)
- IMDb: 7.1/10
- Rotten Tomatoes: 89%
- Viki: 9.6/10
She is a high school girl and a killing machine. She endures experiments on her body and mind. She gets tangled in a crime while struggling with her identity.
The synopsis is misleading :). But I can’t imagine a better way to describe it without spoiling anything. Just know that this movie has some amazing scenes that will make you feel like you’re watching a Kdrama. If you haven’t seen it, give it a try. While Part 2 is also great, I prefer Part 1.
5. The Outlaws and The Roundup (Movie - 2017, 2022)
The Outlaws: A ruthless Chinese loan shark and his vicious men terrorize Seoul’s Chinatown. A local cop tries to keep the peace as gang wars erupt. The loan shark plots to take over the whole area.
- IMDb: 7.2/10
- Rotten Tomatoes: 91%
The Roundup: Detective Ma is back! He’s on a mission to catch a fugitive who escaped to Vietnam. But the chase doesn’t end there. He follows him all the way to South Korea, where the action gets even hotter.
- IMDb: 7/10
- Rotten Tomatoes: 96%
"The Outlaws" is a gangster/crime masterpiece. It has everything you want: action, humor, suspense, crime, drama, thrill, and more. The villain is a terrifying psycho and the protagonist is a charismatic Ma Dong-Seok. "The Roundup" is good as well.
