“Knight Flower” episode 9 recap

A messy encounter

The 9th episode of "Knight Flower" starts with Su-ho and Yoon-hak showing up. Yoon-hak mocks him for losing his fan and goes inside the meeting place by himself. Su-ho follows him when he hears Yeo-hwa’s voice threatening Yoon-hak. They all get into a mess when they see each other, Yoon-hak attempts to unmask her and Su-ho shoves him. She escapes and Yoon-hak is baffled.

A forbidden affection

Yeo-hwa is waiting for Su-ho at Myungdo, but Jang wants to prevent them from meeting. She fears that they might fall in love, which shocks Yeo-hwa. Su-ho tells her how his case is connected to Soong-ho and reveals his real father, Im Kang. Yeo-hwa decides to see Yoon-hak again.

In the meantime, Man-sik is eager to kill Su-ho before Seok learns that he's alive, but Pil advises him to wait. Yoon-hak figures out that Yeon-sun and Su-ho are guarding the same person and that Su-ho knows the Masked Lady well. He asks Su-ho if Yeo-hwa is the Masked Lady and he gets nervous.

A family reunion

Lady Yoo is still heartbroken and chooses to pray for Jeong at a temple with Jae-yi. Madam Bong-mal looks everywhere for Jeong until she finds him and they piece together the puzzle. Seok lied that Jeong died on his wedding day and there was no corpse. He faces Seok after Lady Yoo departs and says that he wants to make amends to his mother and wife. Seok is angry and tells him to go away.

Yoon-hak informs the King about the latest news and his desire to protect Yeo-hwa. The King misinterprets and jokes that he has a crush on her. At Myungdo, Ggotnim tries to cheer up a gloomy Jeong. She tells him how she makes Yeo-hwa happy when she is sad.

Jang tells Yeo-hwa that Oh and Pil are siblings inside. She waits for Su-ho alone, but Jeong, who is looking for Jang, bumps into Yeo-hwa, whose face is partly covered. She stops him just as Su-ho arrives. Jeong assumes they are lovers, congratulates Su-ho, and leaves.

A palace intrigue

The King proposes to make Yoon-hak a minister at the palace, but this backfires. Seok reminds him that he is only king because he has no aspirations, and he should stay that way. The Queen Dowager appears with Lady Oh as her maid, surprising Seok. The King watches their exchange, which is full of hidden insults.

Yeo-hwa finally meets Yoon-hak, who suggests that Seok ordered Lady Oh to kill the old king. She is evidence of his craftiness, as he married her off to his son even though she has no powerful family, so he could use her as a hostage against Soong-ho.

Yeo-hwa remembers her first year of mourning when Seok would pretend to look for her brother and ask about his whereabouts and belongings. Seok orders Pil to kill Oh at the same time.

Su-ho and Yeo-hwa meet that night, and she tells him that the man who attacked him was Pil. He also realizes that he passed out because he remembered Pil’s butcher knife, which was used to murder his family.

Final escape

The next day, Seok instructs his attendant to ensure that Jeong leaves the country. Before Seok leaves, Yeo-hwa shows him a fake letter - someone wants to meet her at Haishi and give her information about Soong-ho. She demands to go and he agrees. Yoon-hak, Su-ho, and Bi-chan persuade Hwang to investigate Pil as the King ordered.

At Myungdo, Seok’s attendant has a weapon, but Hwal-yoo and Ggotnim stop him from finding Jeong. Jeong decides to leave anyway and says goodbye to them. The attendant sees them and reports to Seok that Jeong is gone. Seok wishes that Yeo-hwa had remained a loyal daughter-in-law.

Jeong arrives at the temple instead of departing and embraces Lady Yoo and Jae-yi with tears. Pil pays a visit to Oh and gives her a warning. She continues to scorn him and hurl insults at him. He feels assured that she has no feelings for him and strangles her. At the same time, Seok informs Yeo-hwa that she has to set an example for widows and mourn for his son at his grave for 3 years.

Little surprises

In the final scene of "Knight Flower" episode 9, Yeo-hwa reveals a hidden broken tile on the wall that separates them to Su-ho. After that, she discovers fruits, candy, and flowers in the tile and smiles.

Su ho’s hidden gifts brighten Yeo-hwa’s days, giving her fresh hope and joy. She can’t help but beam with delight when she discovers them.

Review: "Knight Flower" is entering its final stage and it shows no signs of slowing down with episode 9. Seok has stopped concealing his evil side and is openly menacing and eliminating people. But this also makes him reckless as there are now enough people who can testify against him.

However, Yeo-hwa’s false letter doesn't seem logical as it only results in Seok confining her. Maybe she has a plan that needs Seok to believe that she will go into grave mourning.
