“My Happy Ending” episode 16 recap

[Feb 25] “My Happy Ending” Episode 16: Rating & Recap

"My Happy Ending" left a lingering impression on us as it reflected on the happiness of life and closed its curtain.

In the 16th episode, Jae-won faced the trauma that had aggravated her bipolar disorder and took a step forward, while Kwon Yoon-jin (So Yi-hyun) met her death as a result of karma, putting an end to the fateful confrontation between the 2 women.

We empathized with Seo Jae-won (Jang Na-ra)'s struggle to face the pain she was afraid to confront to regain the happiness that collapsed instantly. Moreover, through Jae-won, who suffers from bipolar disorder, the drama dealt with the issue of mental illness, which can be experienced by anyone. It drew sympathy from us who projected ourselves onto Jae-won, who overcame despair.

What happened to Yoon-jin?

Jae-won desperately searched for her daughter Heo Ah-rin (Choi So-yul), who was taken away by Yoon-jin. Meanwhile, Yoon-jin felt the small happiness that she had wanted while eating ice cream with Ah-rin.

Then, Yoon-jin called Jae-won and told her that she had left Ah-rin at home, and Jae-won was relieved to see her daughter. But after that, when on her way to the police station, Yoon-jin was suddenly involved in a car accident and closed her eyes while recalling the memories with Jae-won, whom she had been with since she was 15.

After stabilizing the company, Jae-won left an email to the employees apologizing and resigning for the things that had happened. She also asked Yoon Tae-o (Lee Ki-taek) to take over as CEO.

Jae-won’s reconciliation with her mother and herself

Left alone, Jae-won had time to think only of herself and met the hallucination of her mother Jung Mi-hyang (Kang Ji-eun). She decided to vent out the resentment and sorrow in her heart about the moment when her mom tried to kill herself when she was young. Jae-won sobbed, saying that living happily with her mother was all she wanted, and the hallucinated mother apologized and asked her to live happily.

After untying the knot with her mother by herself, Jae-won explained to Ah-rin the death of Heo Soon-young (Son Ho-jun) with difficulty and visited the columbarium to say goodbye to Soon-young with tears.

Nam Tae-ju (Park Ho-san) was released from prison. He received hiking shoes from Oh Detective (Kim Soo-jin) as a release commemoration and laughed while bickering with her.

Meanwhile, Jae-won spent a normal and warm daily life with Seo Chang-seok (Kim Hong-pa) and Ah-rin. She expressed her gratitude to Tae-o, who had always been by her side with a faithful love, and Tae-o confessed, “Don’t push away my feelings.” Jae-won showed her open mind, saying, “It might take a long time. Are you okay with that?” and Tae-o was happyyyyy, saying, “Of course I can wait.”

A year later, Jae-won met the psychiatrist Jo Soo-kyung (Lim Sun-woo), who had appeared as a hallucination. She told her about the past events, received praise from Soo-kyung for accomplishing many things, and promised to accept herself as she is and continue to receive treatment.

Chang-seok, Ah-rin, and Jae-won smiled happily at the beach and recited:

I think I know now. There is no happy ending in life. I just have to live well every day that repeats. With the precious people. (Jae-won)

You might be happy today but you’ll face hardship tomorrow. But you’ll become happy again the day after. (Jae-won)

This delivered a touching emotion.~
