The first episode of tvN’s “Wedding Impossible” has made a strong debut! The drama, which tells the story of Na Ah-Jung (Jeon Jong-Seo), an obscure actress who fakes a marriage with her friend Lee Do-Han (Kim Do-Wan) to become the star of her own life, and Lee Ji-Han (Moon Sang-Min), who tries to stop his brother’s wedding at all costs, recorded an average rating of 4.0% nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea.
“Wedding Impossible" episode 1 recap
You know everyone has sides of their life they don't want others to know. This is what it is for me. Putting up with unfair things. (A-Jeong)(How amazing is it that Ji-Han fell for her even after seeing her at lowest? We’re in for a treat.)
A collision of fates
The first episode of "Wedding Impossible" starts with a scene of Lee Ji-Han and Na A-Jeong attending a wedding ceremony. A-Jeong is pretending to be the bride’s best friend, while Ji-Han is using his friendship with the groom to benefit his company LJ Group.
They encounter each other for the first time when they collide outside the wedding hall and drop their papers. The episode then presents another important character, Lee Do-Han. He is the brother of Lee Ji-Han and the heir of LJ Group. He has a secret that he can’t share with his family. He is coming back to South Korea after 5 years abroad.
A proposal of convenience
A-Jeong welcomes him at the airport as she is his longtime friend from high school. They seem to have a special friendship and care deeply for each other. The episode also reveals that A-Jeong is an aspiring actress who dreams of becoming a lead in dramas. However, she only gets minor roles.
Later, both Do-Han and Ji-Han join a family gathering where their other relatives are present. Their grandfather, the chairman of LJ Group, Hyun Dae-Ho (Kwon Hae-Hyo), has summoned them. He tells Do-Han to marry Yoon Chae-Won (Bae Yoon-Kyung), the CEO of Taeyang Corporation.
He intends to transfer the management rights to Do-Han after the marriage. But Do-Han has no interest or wish to get married.
At the end of episode 1, Do-Han’s grandfather, Hyun Dae-Ho, pushes him to marry Chae-Won from Taeyang Corporation. To hide his secret from his family, Do-Han chooses to ask his best friend, A-Jeong, to enter a contract marriage with him.
In the final scene of "Wedding Impossible" episode 1, Do-Han takes A-Jeong to a family event. He wants to introduce her to his family as his girlfriend. He then proposes to A-Jeong for the fake marriage. He offers her 2 million won for it.
Ji-Han overhears his brother proposing to A-Jeong. The episode concludes with Ji-Han strongly objecting to it as he senses that their relationship isn't real.
Review
A fake marriage and a meddling brother - that’s the recipe for a hilarious rom-com. You don’t need to be a genius to predict the outcome, but that’s what makes it enjoyable, right?
The edgy Jeon Jong-seo was drawn to this drama based on a webtoon, and we're intrigued too. She portrays an actress who pretends to wed her best friend Kim Do-wan, but his younger sibling Moon Sang-min has a different agenda.
It’s also worth mentioning that the director of "My Unfamiliar Family" and "Search Query: WWW" is in charge. So that’s a bonus.
