"Hide" Episodes 5 & 6: Recap & review

Our main character faces a lot of trouble as her life turns into a never-ending bad dream, caused by a mean person. She needs to make hard choices to keep her daughter and herself safe, even if it means people might not like her for it. But we know she’s brave and won’t give up easily.

Moon-young’s life gets harder as she keeps getting involved in problems that aren’t hers. She just can’t get a break. After dealing with one bad guy, she finds out he was just working for someone much worse.

Yeon-joo starts trouble by taking Sung-jae and making Moon-young do his job. She won’t threaten Bom, though – she’s not cruel like Chief Ma. Moon-young doesn’t want to, but she can’t let her husband be hurt. She plans to save Sung-jae first and deal with Yeon-joo later.

While doing illegal work for Yeon-joo, Moon-young finds out that Yeon-joo is a well-known lobbyist involved in secret deals but has never been caught. She doesn’t work for companies like Geumshin directly but leads their tricky projects on her own.

Yeon-joo isn’t officially working for Geumshin, but she’s very close to Chairman Choi, taking care of him because he’s sick and gets confused often. Sung-jae’s father also knows Chairman Choi well. It turns out Sung-jae’s family owes the company because Chairman Choi is helping Sung-jae’s father in politics, as long as his family is safe.

Detective Baek is still trying to solve the case and making things hard for Moon-young. He’s following a phone that used to belong to “Tae-soo” – which Moon-young now has because of Yeon-joo. There’s no proof against her, but it’s suspicious that the phone is with her all the time. With all the problems she has, this is just a small one.

Moon-young’s last job to get Sung-jae back is to defend a person who clearly started a fire. She has to use illegal tricks and lies to win. This makes her fight with her only friend Shin-hwa, who’s the lawyer on the other side. Yeon-joo is happy with how things turned out and gives Sung-jae back after Moon-young wins.

But Yeon-joo sends Moon-young a video of Sung-jae and his mother doing something terrible to Tae-soo. It seems like Yeon-joo did this just to see Moon-young’s reaction, not as a threat.

Moon-young is very upset. She doesn’t trust Sung-jae anymore and is scared to leave him with Bom. She also finds out that Sung-jae has been lying about other things. Jin-woo tells her that he’s involved because he’s looking for his daughter, who was born while he was in jail. Sung-jae has been promising to help find her.

Moon-young really hopes she can trust Shin-hwa because she tells her all her secrets, including the murder, and leaves her daughter Bom with her. Moon-young doesn’t waste time and gets Sung-jae and his family together for a talk, surprising them with Jin-woo’s arrival.

Things get intense quickly. Sung-jae admits he never intended to help Jin-woo find his daughter and insults Jin-woo, which makes Moon-young upset. She shows everyone the video of the murder, and Sung-jae’s reaction confirms that he’s not the person she thought he was. He doesn’t even try to explain and gets mad at Moon-young for messing up his plans, then gets into a fight with Jin-woo.

Seung-jae was taken aback upon encountering the chairman, leaving us to wonder about their shared history. He discovered that Yeon-joo was the one who sent the video, and he confronted her aggressively. However, the scene ended on a note of mystery, which left us with suspicions.

Moon-young shouts that Yeon-joo sent the video, and Sung-jae runs away to Yeon-joo’s house. He’s so angry that he almost hurts her but stops when Chairman Choi walks in.

Now, it’s clear who’s on Moon-young’s side: only Jin-woo and Shin-hwa. Jin-woo starts to trust Moon-young more because she’s nothing like Sung-jae. She even finds his daughter’s adoption information for him, doing what Sung-jae promised.

Moon-young, Jin-woo, and Shin-hwa share what they know and plan to catch Sung-jae and the others from Geumshin. Moon-young gets the police to arrest Sung-jae, but she can’t make herself give them the murder video. Sung-jae calls her a traitor and says their relationship is over.

But things don’t go smoothly. Sung-jae’s father, worried about his political image, gets help from Yeon-joo and Chairman Choi. Suddenly, there’s proof that Sung-jae was somewhere else, and he’s set free. There will be a trial, but it’s hard to say if it will be fair.

They [Sung-jae and Yeon-jooĈ° were putting on a show from the beginning....

Moon-young isn’t stopped by this problem. She follows Yeon-joo to a hidden house to find out her real plans. Looking through the window, Moon-young is shocked to see Yeon-joo and Sung-jae together. We learn from a flashback that they’ve been pretending for some time. Episode 6 ends dramatically with Moon-young driving her car through the window at Yeon-joo and Sung-jae.

The story keeps getting more intense. Moon-young is having a tough time and needs trustworthy friends like Jin-woo and Shin-hwa. Sung-jae has turned out to be even worse than expected. It seems he lied about dying to get away from his family, not to protect them. He enjoys being bad, and a normal family life doesn’t suit him. Now, he’s just another enemy for Moon-young, and the story is only halfway done!
