[Apr 13] “Missing Crown Prince" Ep 1: Ratings, Recap, Review

The Crown Prince Lee Geon, played by Suho, suddenly finds himself with a Crown Princess.

In episode 1, the Queen Dowager, played by Myung Se-bin, feels suffocated and calls for a royal physician to examine her. After the physician suggests preparing a medicinal decoction, the Queen Dowager, while agreeing, continues to clutch her chest in anxiety.

At this moment, Haejong, played by Jeon Jin-oh, expresses his concern, saying, “I came out because I felt suffocated and anxious. How is the Queen Dowager?” The physician assures that it’s nothing serious, to which Haejong responds with relief.

Suddenly, a court official appears to announce an emergency, and Haejong, feeling anxious, flees. Inside the palace, assassins engage in sword fights, killing officials, and everyone flees. A bloody wind sweeps through the palace.

Many officials die before Haejong, who trembles with fear. Worried about the Crown Prince’s safety, Haejong orders to check on Lee Geon. The officials who go to Lee Geon’s quarters find him missing and angrily question the assassins about his whereabouts.

However, Lee Geon, along with Doseong Daegun, played by Kim Min-kyu, has gone to where the common people are. Lee Geon and Doseong Daegun spend their time listening to storytellers and buying books at a marketplace. During this time, Lee Geon gets into a verbal and physical fight with swindlers.

Doseong Daegun is troubled by the bruise on Lee Geon’s face as they need to return to the palace. Eventually, Doseong Daegun suggests stopping by a gisaeng house to cover up the bruise. He carefully applies powder, typically used by women, to Lee Geon’s face.

Having barely concealed the bruise, Lee Geon enters the palace with Doseong Daegun, but the scent of the powder leads to misunderstandings. Ultimately, the Queen Dowager, Myung Se-bin, misinterprets the situation and insists on bringing in a Crown Princess.

The Queen Dowager mentions the daughter of Choi Sang-rok, played by Kim Ju-hun, for the position of Crown Princess, and Haejong agrees, saying, “Considering the pure and upright character of the royal physician, I can think of no better match.” With Haejong’s agreement, the Queen Dowager immediately orders the selection of the Crown Princess. Lee Geon is taken aback by the sudden decree.
