Intrigue & deception
In episode 2. La-hui starts by putting up pictures of those she wants to get back at, saying no one, not even her, should be happy. She teams up with K to film a documentary for TIKITAKA’s new app, “Children Home,” which uses GPS to keep kids from getting lost.
To make people like the app and boost TIKITAKA’s shares, K pretends that Myoung-ji’s daughter Erica is kidnapped, but the police find her using the app.
After Erica is found, more parents sign up their kids, and the mayor says the app is the official one for tracking kids. Myoung-ji is angry and warns them not to involve her kids again. The fake kidnapping makes Mo-na think about her own missing daughter, Ha-na.
Do-hyuk is making K’s life hard by filming his life story, and La-hui is helping by setting up visits to orphanages. K hates filming because he can’t do what he wants with cameras around.
La-hui questions K about why he’s collecting kids’ fingerprints with the app, and he says she’ll find out when it’s time.
Meanwhile, Michelle shows a sneak peek of the movie “Dear D.” Mo-ne is upset because she thought it wouldn’t come out. She tries to talk to K, but La-hui answers and tells her to visit if she wants to talk. Mo-ne meets Michelle and begs her not to release the movie, saying it helps the killer, K, now known as Lee Hwi-so.
Michelle acts like she doesn’t know what Mo-ne is talking about and says if Mo-ne wants to prove K is Lee Hwi-so, she needs to show it with her daughter’s DNA. But Mo-ne can’t because her daughter is gone. Mo-ne meets Hwang Chan-sung, a new character, who gives her his card. Later, Mo-ne begs La-hui to help her talk to K and stop the movie.
La-hui tells Mathew she’ll keep releasing the movie but plans to use it to trap Mo-ne. She thinks they can say Mo-ne tricked them too, and they’ll show her as the bad guy in the movie to reveal her part in Da-mi’s death.
We learn that Hwang Chan-sung runs Save, TIKITAKA’s rival, which is bigger on social media. K wants to beat Save and combine it with TIKITAKA to know everyone’s secrets and be the most powerful man, not just for five years like the president. La-hui realizes K made “Children Home” to get everyone’s personal info.
Dramatic confrontations
TIKITAKA Studio shows another teaser for “Dear D,” and Mo-ne decides to confront La-hui. She goes to her office and hears her trying to meet with Save’s CEO, who she met at the restaurant.
That evening, she visits K and makes an offer he can’t turn down. She calls Chang-sung on speakerphone to show she can arrange a meeting, and K agrees to sort out the problem with Michelle.
La-hui guesses Mo-ne might harm Michelle, so she has Ju-ran and Chul-woo take Michelle to keep her safe until the next day’s premiere. But Ki-tak and Do-hyuk save her.
La-hui had predicted Do-hyuk would save Michelle. When Michelle wakes up, she’s ready to leave and play her role in revealing K as Shim Jun-seok. She gives Do-hyuk the final documentary to show at the premiere of “Dear D.” If all goes well, Do-hyuk can come back.
At the premiere, La-hui thinks she’s in control and that everyone will see “Dear D” and know Mo-ne is the mean one. She’s even invited Da-mi’s classmates as proof. But Mo-ne isn’t worried because she trusts K to stop the movie’s release.
K gets to the premiere late and Michelle calls him to meet on the fourth floor, claiming she has evidence against him. Ki-tak and Do-hyuk are also there, with Do-hyuk disguised as Shim Jun-seok to be seen by K’s group.
Michelle faces K, but he’s sure she has no proof. It turns out Michelle never planned to release “Dear D”; the premiere was a trap for K. They argue, and Michelle jumps from the fourth floor, accusing Shim Jun-seok of attacking her.
The spotlight turns to K, and a video shows him angry at children and haunted by Lee Hwi-so.
Ki-tak uses smoke as a diversion to get Michelle out, and La-hui watches them leave by ambulance. She gets the CCTV footage showing Shim Jun-seok following Michelle. When K is arrested, everyone believes he’s guilty, but La-hui saves him with footage showing Jun-seok’s real face, not after surgery.
She tells the police Jun-seok pushed Michelle, not K. K’s team backs her up, confusing everyone since they’d said Do-hyuk was Jun-seok after surgery. La-hui admits her mistake, clearing Do-hyuk.
K has to agree because the CCTV can’t be explained. He promises to clear his name and catch the real Shim Jun-seok when Do-hyuk appears.
The police let K go as news spreads that the real Jun-seok is back, proving Do-hyuk’s innocence.
K heads home, relieved, thinking Do-hyuk is gone. But he finds a man in his driveway. The episode ends with Min Do-hyuk taking off the Shim Jun-seok mask, thanking K for his unintentional help.
Review
If you saw episode 2 and didn’t drop your jaw in shock, or start yelling and clapping when Do-hyuk’s plan clicked, then you should watch it again. Season 2 began with excitement, and this episode took it to new heights. The suspense was great, and the big reveal was quite astonishing.
Unlike K, who uses technology to disguise himself for fear of being found out, I’m thrilled that the writers let Do-hyuk reclaim his true self. Preparing for a showdown between honesty and deception, with Do-hyuk bravely facing a villain with three fake identities, has made this season’s anticipation worthwhile.
How did you feel about Min Do-hyuk and his crew’s initial scheme against K? Do you think Michele will make it through her ordeal?
