“Wonderful World” ep 13-14: Recap, Review
Episode 13
Kim Nam-joo and Cha Eun-woo join forces to bring Park Hyuk-kwon to justice, finally raising the curtain on their showdown.
The 13th episode depicted Soo-hyun (played by Kim Nam-joo) and Seon-yul (played by Cha Eun-woo), who learned the entire truth of that day, gathering their strength to condemn the devil Kim Joon (played by Park Hyuk-kwon), the instigator of all events.
Soo-hyun and Seon-yul, who learned the full story of the incident through a video on the deceased Gun-woo’s (played by Lee Joon) tablet, were devastated by the horrific truth they could never have imagined. Among them, Seon-yul was engulfed in guilt upon discovering that his heart transplant surgery cost Gun-woo his life, and he silently turned away from Soo-hyun, who was sobbing as if her heart was being torn apart.
Seon-yul, with a heavy heart, even left Seoul to get a grip on himself, but the shadow of Kim Joon, a prominent presidential candidate, continued to haunt him. As Kim Joon drew closer to the presidency, Seon-yul struggled with torment. Wandering Seon-yul, with a heart seeking atonement, visited the memorial park where Gun-woo lay at rest and promised in front of Gun-woo’s gravestone, “I will help your mother,” finally determining his path forward.
On the other hand, Soo-hyun, with a resolved heart, filed a lawsuit against Kim Joon, the new perpetrator in the Gun-woo case, declaring an all-out war. Although the fight would not be easy against a powerful presidential candidate, Soo-hyun was prepared to do anything for Gun-woo, calmly readying for the battle with a lawyer appointed.
However, unbeknownst to Soo-hyun, another cruel fate was approaching. Her mother, Go Eun (played by Won Mi-kyung), was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Nevertheless, Go Eun, having already experienced a series of misfortunes, kept her condition secret, adding to the heartache.
Soon after, Seon-yul sought out Soo-hyun. Seon-yul confessed that he too had heard all the voices in the tablet video and shed tears of apology. Soo-hyun comforted him, saying it wasn’t his fault, but Seon-yul repeatedly bowed his head, saying, “I’m sorry.”
Soo-hyun then reflected on her choice that had taken Seon-yul’s father’s life, saying, “I believed it was the right thing to do at the time. But Seon-yul, I’ve caused you an indelible pain. I’m sorry too,” as she cried. Thus, the two, both perpetrators and victims to each other, silently gazed at each other with tear-soaked eyes, soothing and understanding each other’s wounds.
Afterward, Soo-hyun attempted to announce the lawsuit against Kim Joon to the press through a press conference urging the clarification of the Gun-woo case. Yet, only a handful of reporters attended Soo-hyun’s press conference.
At the same time, reporters from all media outlets were gathered at Kim Joon’s press conference. The reason being that Kim Joon’s camp, having learned of Soo-hyun’s press conference in advance, threatened to sue any media covering Soo-hyun’s event, causing all news outlets to shy away to avoid being targeted by the likely next president, Kim Joon.
Even ABS, where her husband Soo-ho (played by Kim Kang-woo) served as the news director, ignored Soo-hyun’s press conference, foiling her plans. And ultimately, Soo-ho, at Kim Joon’s request, handed over Gun-woo’s tablet to Kim Joon, eliciting sighs.
With the original video, the only evidence with legal effect, in his hands, Kim Joon destroyed the tablet, seizing the upper hand. Soo-hyun, learning belatedly of the tablet’s disappearance, summoned Soo-ho and confronted him.
Soo-ho confessed that he had taken the tablet and tried to persuade Soo-hyun to give up her revenge against Kim Joon. Soo-hyun expressed her desolation, asking, “Can you forgive Kim Joon, who did this to our Gun-woo?” Soo-ho replied, “No matter what anyone says, you are more important to me now. I’ll take all the punishment in hell. So please, live your life well from now on.”
However, Soo-hyun declared, “I won't live in a country where the man who killed Gun-woo becomes president,” igniting her resolve even more. Soo-hyun pondered a solution to overcome the obstacles Kim Joon would inevitably place in her path and heightened curiosity about her plan by taking out her book "Seasonal Ties."
Meanwhile, Seon-yul and his friends sought out the victims of the Junseong Foundation to prepare a class-action lawsuit. However, all the victims were afraid of Kim Joon and refused to testify. They managed to gather the victims in one place, but they hesitated to file the lawsuit again.
At that moment, Seon-yul stepped forward in front of the victims and confessed that Kim Joon and his father had murdered Gun-woo. Seon-yul said, “I want to fight to the end for that child and his parents who died in my place. I don’t want to be ashamed anymore,” bowing to the victims and asking for their support.
Moved by Seon-yul’s sincerity, the victims stamped the lawsuit, lending their strength. And while Soo-hyun’s lawsuit against Kim Joon was stalled by his stalling tactics, Seon-yul handed over the class-action lawsuit against the Junseong Foundation to Soo-hyun, bolstering the efforts.
In the midst of this, Soo-hyun went to her family home to meet Go Eun and was shocked to find the house in disarray. Discovering Go Eun’s shoes at the entrance of the alley, Soo-hyun was suddenly reminded of Gun-woo and frantically searched the neighborhood, fearing something might have happened to Go Eun.
Soo-hyun found her mom sitting alone in the playground and breathed a sigh of relief, but she immediately realized that Go Eun wasn't in her right mind. However, Soo-hyun didn't show her concern for Go Eun’s sake. And Go Eun, regaining her senses, also calmly accepted the situation, understanding Soo-hyun’s heart.
At the end of episode 13, the nature of Soo-hyun’s countermeasure against Kim Joon was revealed. Soo-hyun, announcing her return as an author, unexpectedly exposed Kim Joon’s crime at the commemorative event.
Soo-hyun, in front of the cultural reporters and foreign press gathered to cover her, revealed her plans for her next work, stating that it was based on the real story of her son’s case and that Kim Joon had murdered her son, turning the event upside down.
Along with this, Seon-yul’s solemn vow, “If you fail, I’ll kill Kim Joon for you,” followed by a scene of him choking Kim Joon on the rooftop of a building and saying, “Don’t touch that woman anymore. We’re going together from here,” added to the shock. Thus, with everything at stake, Soo-hyun and Seon-yul’s ability to condemn the devil Kim Joon, who stands at the pinnacle of power, draws intense interest in the final showdown of "Wonderful World’s" last episode.
Following the broadcast of the 13th episode, hot reactions continued on SNS and various online communities, with comments like “The scene where Soo-hyun and Seon-yul face the truth and apologize to each other for the first time is so good, I’m going crazy,” “The relationship between Soo-hyun and Seon-yul is insanely complex. It’s my favorite scene,” “Cha Eun-woo’s acting fits perfectly,” “Kim Nam-joo’s ability to immerse people is truly innate,” and “The solid and delicious relationship between Soo-hyun and Seon-yul is even better than some love lines. It’s tastier because it’s not a love line.”
Episode 14
In the last episode, the efforts of Soo-hyun and Seon-yul led to the revelation of the truth about Kim Joon, the mastermind behind all the events.
Although Kim Joon concealed all evidence that he was the perpetrator who killed Soo-hyun’s son, Gun-woo, her husband and journalist Soo-ho publicly revealed all the information collected by Soo-hyun and Seon-yul about Kim Joon. As a result, Kim Joon was arrested, and everyone who suffered because of him found happiness.
6 years later, Soo-hyun cared for children in an orphanage, while Seon-yul continued his studies to become a doctor.
