On the other hand, KBS2’s “Love Song for Illusion” saw a minor rise in its ratings, reaching 2.4% in average nationwide ratings for its 4th episode. This is a 0.1% improvement from its last episode.

The previous episode ended with Crown Prince Sajo Hyeon suppressing his other self, Ak-Hee, and locking him inside his mind. At the same time, Consort Hyo/Kyera regained her memory and decided to pursue her vengeance against the king.

Episode 4 starts with Kyera holding a knife behind Sajo Hyeon as she embraces him, but she changes her mind and pretends to be amnesiac. The episode shows how Kyera plots to assassinate the king throughout the story.

Park Ji-Hoon confides in Hong Ye-Ji about his past trauma

In the 4th episode of Love Song for Illusion, Park Ji-Hoon’s Sajo Hyeon struggles to face his father, the king, without Ak-Hee’s courage. However, Kyera supports him when he shares his painful childhood with her.

Kyera used to hold the king and his son responsible for the death of her family. She was unaware that Sajo Hyeon tried to rescue her back then. In this episode, the crown prince tells her how his father made him watch a brutal slaughter when he was a kid. Kyera understands that he was talking about the killing of her family.

He says that he can never erase the image of that little girl’s eyes from his memory. That trauma gave birth to the other personality, Ak-Hee, in his mind. Kyera feels compassion for him and thinks to herself, “He hasn't forgotten that day. That day has left a deep scar on him, just like me.” She then goes to Sajo Hyeon and hugs him, creating a romantic mood between them.

For context, Kyera became a killer after the king murdered her family when she was a child. Her real name is Yeon Wol, and she belongs to a noble lineage.

Kyera, played by Hong Ye-Ji, earns the king's trust by offering him some healing herbs. Meanwhile, Park Ji-Hoon's Sajo Hyeon falls for her and tries to keep her in the palace.

However, the crown princess tells him the truth about Kyera. She is the killer who wants to avenge her father, General Yeon Poong-Hak, who died 10 years ago by the king's order. She also warns him that his father's life is at stake. Sajo Hyeon runs to his father's hut and sees Kyera coming out. She's there to ease the king's pain.

Kyera tells him that she remembers everything and that she's leaving, as he suggested before. Sajo Hyeon feels betrayed and asks her if she ever cared for him when they embraced. He also questions her if she's Yeon Wol, the name of the girl he tried to save in the past. She's shocked by his words. As he confronts her for lying to him, a guard informs him about the king. He goes inside and finds his father dead with a needle stuck in his neck.

Episode 4 concludes with Sajo Hyeon accusing Kyera of murdering the king. She denies it and says, “I didn’t do it!”
