[Mar 30] “Wonderful World” Ep 10: Rating, Recap, Review

Kim Nam-joo raises suspicions about a traffic accident involving Cha Eun-woo’s mother, while also giving him a sharp piece of advice, marking a powerful turning point in Eun-woo’s tale of revenge.

In episode 10, Soo-hyun (played by Nam-joo) is shocked to discover the extent of Seon-yul’s (played by Eun-woo) relentless pursuit of revenge. The tension escalates as Soo-hyun confronts Seon-yul, who has revealed his true identity, urging him to face what he truly needs to do.

Meanwhile, it's revealed that Seon-yul wasn't the one who harmed Soo-hyun's mom Go-eun (played by Won Mi-kyung) but was actually the benefactor who took the fallen Go-eun to the hospital. As Seon-yul’s mother passes away, Soo-hyun, as a mourner, faces Seon-yul, the chief mourner, hinting at a turning point in the relationship between the two, which had been filled with vengeance and hatred.

Upon hearing from Seon-yul about Go-eun’s collapse, Soo-hyun, enraged at the thought that Seon-yul had even harmed her mother, searches for him after ensuring Go-eun’s safety. Soo-hyun enters Seon-yul’s house, finding the door open, a trace left by Han-sang (played by Sung Ji-roo), who had been secretly investigating Seon-yul. Han-sang quietly leaves upon sensing someone’s presence. And in the meantime, Soo-hyun, inspecting Seon-yul’s house, is appalled to find evidence of Seon-yul’s surveillance of her every move.

At the same time, Su-ho (played by Kim Kang-woo) prepares for a showdown with Kim Jun (played by Park Hyuk-kwon). Su-ho plans to expose Kim Jun’s crime of hiding slush funds using Hye-geum’s (played by Cha Soo-yeon) gallery on a live news broadcast. However, Hye-geum, who was supposed to appear as a witness, doesn't show up at the studio, and Su-ho also refrains from raising questions about Kim Jun’s corruption during the interview. Moreover, Kim Jun, displaying charisma in front of the camera, uses Su-ho’s interview as a stepping stone to win public favor.

Behind this situation lies Kim Jun’s scheme: he had confronted Su-ho with photos of Su-ho’s infidelity before the broadcast, silencing him, and used his subordinates to prevent Hye-geum from reaching the broadcasting station. Furthermore, Kim Jun’s despicable act of threatening Hye-geum with his son Hee-jae (played by Jin Jae-hee) incites our anger.

Later, Kim Jun invites Seon-yul, who had provided the decisive evidence of the affair photos, to a private gathering of his closest associates. There, Seon-yul witnesses the tight connections among the prosecutors and judges who had helped his father’s trial. Reminded of his father’s case due to the gathering with Kim Jun, Seon-yul visits the riverside where he had scattered his father’s ashes and recalls the conversation he had with his mother Eun-min (played by Kang Myung-joo) at the time. His mother had asked Seon-yul not to hate Soo-hyun. But Seon-yul, unable to forgive Soo-hyun, reaffirms his desire for revenge, saying, “I’m sorry, Mom. I have to go through with this.”

Later, as Seon-yul drives home, he encounters Soo-hyun waiting for him and, as if to threaten her as she did to his father, accelerates the car, heightening the tension. When he stops the car calmly in front of Soo-hyun, who stands staring as if to pierce through him, Soo-hyun questions how long he has been following her. Seon-yul, with a bitter smile, retorts, “Shouldn’t you be begging if you know?”

At that moment, Soo-hyun mentions Seon-yul’s mother, who is in a coma in the hospital, advising him, “Your mother’s case isn’t just an accident; it’s an incident. You have to protect your mother. Look at what you really need to do.” After Soo-hyun leaves, Seon-yul returns home, unable to hide his complicated feelings, raising curiosity about his inner thoughts.

Returning to Go-eun’s hospital, Soo-hyun confronts Su-ho, who has come after receiving a call, but turns away after saying, “You’re just Gun-woo’s father.” When Go-eun wakes up, Soo-hyun cries, “I’m okay as long as I have Mom.” Go-eun also comforts Soo-hyun, sharing the same sentiment, and the mother and daughter embrace each other’s presence to heal the family wounds caused by Su-ho and Yuri’s (played by Lim Se-mi) affair.

Meanwhile, the truth about the day Go-eun collapsed is revealed. Yuri, who had come to visit Go-eun’s hospital room and encountered Soo-hyun, confesses that Go-eun’s collapse was her fault. In fact, the source of Go-eun’s knowledge about Su-ho and Yuri’s affair was not Seon-yul but Yuri herself. And Seon-yul, who had taken the collapsed Go-eun to the hospital to help her, had feigned malice in front of Soo-hyun. Soo-hyun, learning this fact belatedly, questions what Seon-yul’s true intentions are.

Towards the end of episode 10 of "Wonderful World," a bolt from the blue strikes Seon-yul. After receiving a message from Su-jin (played by Yang Hye-ji) that "Mom has woken up, but there isn’t much time," Seon-yul rushes to the hospital only to find his mother has already passed away.

Unable to be present at her deathbed, Seon-yul looks at his mother’s cold body and tearfully says his last goodbye, “I’m a bit late, aren’t I? I’m sorry. You’ve worked hard being by my side. Thank you, Mom. I’m sorry.” Later, Seon-yul receives his mother’s cell phone, which she had used before the accident, as a keepsake and listens to the recording on the phone at the funeral home.

When Soo-hyun, informed of the death by Tae-ho (played by Jin Gun-woo), visits the funeral home, Seon-yul, who is alone without any mourners, shows his wariness, asking, “Why did you come here?” To which Soo-hyun replies, “Right now, just think about sending off your mother properly,” and turns to leave.

At that moment, Seon-yul grabs Soo-hyun’s arm as she leaves, saying, “Did you come to see me in this state?” However, contrary to his harsh words, Seon-yul looks at Soo-hyun with a fragile expression, tears streaming down his face, leaving us with a poignant aftertaste. We're left wondering how Seon-yul will change after his mother’s death and what will happen to the relationship between Soo-hyun and Seon-yul.

‘Wonderful World" is a human mystery drama where Soo-hyun, who personally executed the murderer of her son, unravels the mysterious secrets tied to that day.
