tvN’s “Queen of Tears” featuring Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won became the top show on Saturday as it began the latter half of its season, with a 15.6% rating.
And on April 7, it has become the third most popular drama in the channel’s history! Nielsen Korea reports that the 10th episode of “Queen of Tears” got a 19% rating across the country, making it the top show watched on Sunday.
The show didn’t just hit a new high for itself, but it also passed “Reply 1988” to become the third top-rated tvN drama ever. Right now, only the big successes “Crash Landing on You” and “Goblin” have done better, each with over 20% ratings.
Well done to everyone involved with “Queen of Tears”!

Family’s struggle in Yongdu-ri
The story continues in Yongdu-ri, where the Hong family has lost their jobs, money, and friends. Luckily, they have a caring son-in-law who supports them in their struggle against those who took over. Even though they’re divorced, the main couple still cares for each other and stands together against the bad guy.
Recently, the Hongs were forced out of their company and homes. Because Grandpa Hong used the family’s property to guarantee a business deal that failed, they’ve lost their houses, savings, and even their cars and credit cards. They’re left with nothing. Hae-in and Aunt Beom-ja are also affected, so now they’re all starting over in Yongdu-ri.
Hae-in feels awkward getting help from her ex-husband and his family, but Hyun-woo insists on helping her. He tells her he’ll stop worrying when she’s better and asks her to stay with him. They may not be happy together, but at least they can try to be less sad together. Hae-in makes it clear that being in Yongdu-ri doesn’t change their relationship. But at night, they still text each other, hiding their true feelings with simple messages.
In the show “Queen of Tears,” Hae-in and Hyun-woo end up living together again and act like they’re not divorced. Hyun-woo secretly smiles when he sees Hae-in sleeping, and she gets updates about him from Secretary Na. They go to the hospital together and make plans against their enemy, Eun-seong. The show makes you laugh one moment and feel sad the next when Hae-in decides she wants to stand on her own two feet and leave Hyun-woo for good.
True bonds & hidden agendas
The show also looks at how tough times show who your real friends are. Mommy Hong’s sister and Daddy Hong’s friends don’t help them, even though they’ve been helped by the Hongs before. Daddy Baek, at least, has his family, and Hae-in has Hyun-woo and Secretary Na. We don’t know much about Beom-ja’s friends, but she has a detective who helps her, and that’s important.
In Yongdu-ri, Hae-in, Aunt Beom-ja, and Daddy Hong are getting used to their new life quickly, but Mommy Hong and Soo-cheol are taking longer. Mommy Hong is jealous of Hae-in’s close bond with Mommy Baek, especially since she doesn’t take Hae-in’s fainting seriously. Mommy Baek, on the other hand, is worried when she finds out Hae-in is ill and scolds Hyun-woo for not caring enough. She takes good care of Hae-in, showing she’s a great mom.
The dads bond over their shared losses by drinking and complaining about drama writers. Meanwhile, Eun-seong and his mom argue because they feel guilty about living in the home they took from Hae-in. Eun-seong starts to show feelings for Hae-in, which makes him act like a typical drama character.
Eun-seong says he did everything for Hae-in and might choose her over his girlfriend. His mom seems to care more about their plans than him, which makes Eun-seong upset. She didn’t even look back to check on him during a flashback of a dog attack, showing she might not be as caring as she pretends.
Now that they’re enemies, Eun-seong refuses to let his mom take Hae-in’s job. His mom threatens him with her control over the company stocks, so Eun-seong takes drastic action and kidnaps his grandfather from the hospital!
Eun-seong also invades Hae-in’s privacy by getting her medical records and demands answers from her doctor. When he can’t get them, he tracks down Hae-in and gives her an ultimatum to return to work or he’ll tell her parents about her illness. He’s really lost it.
Eun-seong is now the boss of Queens, but he needs Hae-in’s support to make it look right because he didn’t get the job fairly. Hyun-woo knows this and wants to show everyone that Eun-seong is a cheat. He has a plan involving a tricky person connected to some land, but let’s skip the boring details and just say Hyun-woo looks really cool while he’s making his plans.
Hyun-woo has to fight some bad guys, and he’s not just smart, he’s also strong! After the fight, he comes home hurt, and Hae-in takes care of him like a worried mom. They’re supposed to be divorced, but they don’t act like it.
Seeing Hyun-woo hurt makes Hae-in sad, but he says he’ll always protect her, even if it means getting hurt. Hae-in tells him that’s something married people do, not divorced ones. They both think about their past marriage and wonder if things could have been different.
Soo-cheol is upset because he found out some big secrets about his wife, Da-hye, and their son. But he still cares for them and sends a message to Da-hye to take care of their son’s health. Soo-cheol is really sad, and Hae-in tries to help him feel better without being too soft.
As the week ends, Secretary Na tells Hae-in that Hyun-woo is accused of doing something wrong at work. But Hyun-woo was just proven innocent by the checking team last week! It looks like Eun-seong is trying to make Hyun-woo look bad and send him to jail. Hae-in is upset and doesn’t want to see Hyun-woo in trouble because of Eun-seong’s mean plans. She decides to take care of things herself.
Hae-in agrees to go back to Queens, and Eun-seong is happy because he wants to tell everyone they’re getting married. But when Hae-in gets the chance to talk, she tells everyone that Eun-seong is lying about Hyun-woo to get him in trouble. She even calls Hyun-woo her husband in front of everyone! Hae-in also shares her own health problems with everyone, so Eun-seong can’t use them against her anymore. She’s really brave.
Before this, Hyun-woo thought Hae-in was on Eun-seong’s side, but he’s surprised and moved when she stands up for him in public. They look at each other in a special way, even with so many reporters around.
Then, we see a sweet memory of Hae-in telling Hyun-woo about a time when he was funny and cute while drunk, back when they were dating. And now, Hyun-woo, a bit drunk, tells Hae-in he loves her outside her door. Hae-in hears him, and her words at the press conference are like saying she loves him back. It’s very romantic, but it would be nice to hear them say “I love you” without any big actions or being drunk.
Also, Eun-seong and his girlfriend have left Grace after they tricked everyone at Queens. It’s funny because Grace thought she was safe working with them. Hyun-woo’s threat and Beom-ja hitting Grace on the head made her change sides and find where Eun-seong is keeping Grandpa Hong. Now that the girlfriend’s bad vibes are gone, Grandpa might be waking up from his coma.
Next week we’ll see if Grandpa really wakes up. Beom-ja hopes he does, so she knows it’s not her fault he was in a coma. It looks like Beom-ja might find love in Yongdu-ri too. And hopefully, there will be some happiness for Hae-in and Hyun-woo as well.
