Before my visit to South Korea, I have heard many things related to it, from people, culture, Kpop, skincare, to destinations.  While some are true, others are misconceptions. Below I have listed something I have felt and experienced in the country for a long enough period. If you have any question about it, tell me. I will be willing to answer as far as I know.

1. Korean girls are beautiful?

Not all. But many girls are pretty. Their skin, figure, hair style, fashion sense and makeup are great.

2. Men there are handsome?

OMG. Again, not all are handsome. And it depends on the eye of the beholder. Still, objectively speaking, many guys in SK have good looks (their skin, height, figure, and I find their single eyelid to be charming). Some are gallant and polite. Some are good at singing, rapping, playing guitar, etc. All together make them more attractive. <3

3. Do they stare at me as a foreigner on the street, etc.?

No. Except that you’re so different (very tall, exceptionally good looking, etc.). Koreans are busy with their own life. They walk fast and just pay attention to their way.

4. Do Koreans have good impressions of Americans and Western people?

Especially, Americans. Many Korean do like and admire people from that country. And Koreans studying abroad in USA often have got much respect.

5. Korean men just want to marry Korean women?

Not really. Some who find the language and cultural differences are hard to overcome prefer marrying Koreans. They can date those from other countries, but eventually will marry the ones from their country. Meanwhile, some are open-minded and interested in foreigners.

6. Is South Korea safe?

Yes. It’s generally safe. Robbing, stealing, etc. are not common in the country.

7. When is the best time to visit S.Korea?

If you like great weather and beautiful landscapes, autumn in SK is perfect. In spring, the atmosphere isn’t really nice, but blossoms are a plus. If you don’t care about the cold, winter is a nice choice. Summer in the country is hot…

8. Korean skin is white?

Yes. Most of them have pale skin partly because of their beauty routine. It’s dry in SK, so taking care of their skin is important.

9. Why Suzy is so well loved in South Korea?

I have asked my Korean friends, and they told it’s because she’s beautiful and talented.

10. Koreans eat Kimchi every meal?

Yes. Dishes may vary by meal, but kimchi is, most of the time, included as the side dishes.

12. Is South Korean beautiful?

It’s picturesque. While the cities look lively, it’s peaceful and fresh in the countryside with amazing natural landscapes.

13. Can I ask for help in English when travelling in South Korea?

Yes. You should ask the young as many of them can understand, speak English.

14. Do Korean men use skincare products and wear makeup?

Because of the dry weather, taking care of their skin is important, no matter what gender they’re. A man in SK would have at least sunscreens, cleansers and moisturizers. About putting on makeup, it’s not common. Boy band members are often seen wearing makeup. Also, Korean men wearing pink isn't something weird and considered less masculine. Many of them look cute in it.

15. Everyone gets plastic surgery?

It's true that South Korea has the most procedures done, but don’t generalize. Many women don’t go under the knife. None of my Korean friends have had plastic surgery.
