[Feb 14] “Queen of Divorce” Episode 5: Rating & Recap

The K-drama “Queen of Divorce” starring Lee Ji Ah and Kang Ki Young keeps going strong in the ratings race. It has attracted a steady audience.

Nielsen Korea reported that the episode of “Queen of Divorce” that aired on February 14 had a 4.6% average rating nationwide. This was slightly lower than the 5.7% rating of the previous episode, but still impressive for a cable drama.

Ki-joon’s misunderstanding & Yul-seong’s scheme

As Dae-ki and Sa-ra embrace, Ki-joon sees them and thinks they are a couple. He walks away, feeling hurt. Dae-ki tells Sa-ra that she saved his life when he had cancer and that he came to Solution for her. Sa-ra is shocked and touched by his confession.

They laugh together, happy to reconnect after their hard times. Sa-ra calls Ki-joon later, but he lies about being busy. The next day, he's annoyed to see Sa-ra and Dae-ki again.

Meanwhile, Yul-seong devises a scheme to revive his election campaign and forces Ji-in to cooperate with him. Ji-in has no choice but to agree and informs Sa-ra that she can’t divorce him. Soon, the media reports that Yul-seong rescued his wife from an attacker and Sa-ra realizes that he's using Ji-in for his political gain.

Sa-ra urges Ji-in to leave him, but Ji-in decides to stay with him, with him by her side. Sa-ra is angry, but Ki-joon explains that Ji-in is doing what she can to cope. Sa-ra invites him for a drink, but he turns her down.

She vents to her friend about Ji-in and mentions Ki-joon, which surprises her friend. Then, she receives a call from her son’s nanny, who won’t let her talk to him, but says she will send his photos. Sa-ra looks at his photos and feels motivated to fight for him.

Sa-ra’s revenge and Ki-joon’s discovery

Yul-seong’s strategy pays off and he gains popularity, which Sa-ra can’t stand. She vows to expose him and tracks down her kidnappers. But they get a tip-off and escape before Dae-ki and Kang Bom can catch them.

The team goes out for drinks after work and Ki-joon learns that Sa-ra and Dae-ki are not dating, which makes him happy. He regains his enthusiasm and decides to pursue Sa-ra again. The next day, Dae-ki and Kang Bom finally find a clue about the kidnappers and go after them.

Sa-ra gets the proof she needs and plans to bring Ji-in back on her side so that she can end her marriage. Ji-in finds out that Yul-seong lied about saving her father and feels betrayed. Sa-ra ruins Yul-seong’s election rally by releasing her video online and it goes viral.

Yul-seong is furious and confronts Sa-ra, offering to let her talk to her son if she lies to the media for him. Sa-ra rejects his offer and demands that he sign the divorce papers and pay alimony to Ji-in if he wants her help. Yul-seong refuses and threatens to take revenge on her before leaving.

The next day, Sa-ra meets Ji-in and advises her on how to get out of her situation. Ji-in considers it and the next day at the press conference, she speaks up and reveals that Yul-seong has been dishonest all along. Sa-ra supports her and together they ruin Yul-seong’s election hopes.

After broadcasting the whole event live, Sa-ra became famous and everyone wanted to hire Solution for their divorce issues. Yul-seong, on the other hand, was furious about the situation and his anger reached its climax when he lost the election to his rival.

Meanwhile, Ki-joon was working on Na Yu-mi’s case and found her old phone that had photos of her and Yul-seong, which revealed some clues to him. The following day, Yul-seong contacted Ji-in when she was with Sa-ra and asked her to meet him at the redevelopment site, but Sa-ra advised her not to go and went there herself.

She got there and Yul-seong proposed to end the divorce without paying her any alimony. He said he would give her a large sum of money and let her see her son if she accepted his terms. Sa-ra was disgusted by his offer and saw him stoop low again.

Sa-ra turned down his offer and Yul-seong was enraged by her, and he strangled her and swore to keep her away from her son. He then instructed his assistant to lock Sa-ra up and left. Sa-ra was annoyed by his action, but things changed abruptly when lightning struck and a fire started in the building where she was trapped.

Sa-ra was scared by the sudden fire and searched for a way out while Ki-joon showed up and attempted to rescue Sa-ra. They tried to find each other, but Sa-ra passed out before she could reach Ki-joon. Will Ki-joon be able to locate her?

Review 

Yul-seong is about to start his evil phase while Sa-ra is ready to confront him with all her strength. Ki-joon, on the other hand, keeps impressing us with his affection for Sa-ra, who knows when to give him space and when to follow him. He was a gentleman when he backed off when he thought that Dae-ki was her boyfriend.

We're also looking forward to more thrilling cases in the future because the legal side of the drama isn't as impressive as we had hoped. The story is relatively lacking in the law drama aspect, but the Sa-Ki pair are carrying the show with all they have.
