[Mar 9 & 10] “Live Your Own Life” Episodes 48 & 49: Ratings, Recap, Review

Hyosim (played by Uee) met her father Churyeon (played by Nam Kyung-eup) after 25 years.

Hyosim's dad left home when she was 9. He initially didn't recognize his daughter, who had grown up. He even expressed his intention not to meet his sons and wife Seonsun (played by Yoon Mi-ra), saying he had no face to see them. Hyosim couldn't understand such a father. Hyosim’s family lived for 25 years in worry, anxiety, and longing for Churyeon. Seonsun searched the country for Churyeon and even relied on a reputed shaman.

Hyoseong (played by Nam Sung-jin) learned of Churyeon’s condition from Park Mi-hee, who was loitering in front of Uicheon Villa. Mi-hee was Churyeon’s colleague and a music teacher, and also the teacher Hyoseong liked.

Mi-hee had run away with "married man" Churyeon, abandoning their family. Despite her shame, she returned to the family because of Churyeon’s serious illness. He was thought to have recovered from liver cancer. But acute liver failure occurred, and without a liver transplant, he was in a terminal state, unable to survive more than a month. Outraged, Hyoseong coldly turned away, saying, “I lived as if I had no father. So don’t come back.”

Although they harbored resentment, neither Hyosim nor Hyoseong could completely ignore Churyeon. They were uncertain whether it was right to keep Churyeon’s imminent death from their mother. They feared that if she found out later, it could lead to even greater resentment and regret. Despite being the father who abandoned them, they couldn't ignore the possibility of a liver transplant from his biological children. In the midst of confusion, Hyosim finally broke down in tears, shouting, “Before you die, you must apologize to mom.”

However, Seonsun eventually learned of her husband Churyeon’s serious condition. Mi-hee appeared at Seonsun’s cafe during Hyoseong’s promotion celebration party. Startled, Hyoseong quickly intercepted Mi-hee, but with nowhere else to retreat, she knelt and begged for forgiveness, pleading desperately, “Please save him.” Seonsun then rushed to the hospital. Entering the ward with a trembling heart, she saw Churyeon lying there, and tears of resentment and regret burst from her eyes.

Taeho (played by Ha Jun), who received Seonsun’s blessing for marriage and also proposed to Hyosim, formally introduced his grandmother Myeonghee (played by Jung Young-sook) to Seonsun. After having to conceal her identity due to the family’s dire circumstances, Myeonghee earnestly apologized to Seonsun and expressed her gratitude for allowing Hyosim to be Taeho’s partner and for the precious connection. It was Myeonghee’s sincerity that recognized Hyosim’s true worth before Taeho and allowed her to live warmly in a humanly place, even saving her life.

However, Churyeon’s appearance also negatively affected Taeho. Taeho was angry that Hyosim as she was distraught and preoccupied with her father’s situation and was neglecting the wedding preparations. Moreover, Hyosim hesitantly expressed her feeling that “we might have to postpone the wedding.” The couple had overcome various crises and found love, but now faced an unexpected storm. Curiosity and anticipation rose about how they would navigate through it.

Hyosim vanished, leaving everyone wondering what happened with just 2 episodes left.

In the 49th episode, Taeho was upset with Hyosim for wanting to delay their wedding after meeting her dad for the first time in 25 years. It looked like Hyosim couldn’t leave her family behind.

Taeho, who gets Hyosim more than anyone, said sorry to her and promised to wait until his dad’s problems were sorted out. He even wanted his brother to work in the UK so Hyosim could study there and not worry about family issues.

Seonsun, meeting her husband after 25 years, cried over his past mistakes and the fact that he didn’t have long to live. But as a mom, she stayed strong for her son Hyojun, who had an important exam, and told her kids that scolding their dad felt like a weight lifted after 25 years. She told Hyojun to keep quiet about their dad and forget about giving him part of his liver.

But Hyosim chose to get tested to see if she could donate her liver. She was the one who felt the most anger towards their dad because she saw how much her mom suffered. Hyosim wanted her dad to live and make it up to her mom. Before the test, she let out all her feelings to her dad, who felt too ashamed to face his family. After he left, Hyosim demanded he apologize to them all.

In the end, it was Hyosim, not her brothers, who was a match for the liver donation. Her brother Hyoseong didn’t want her to get hurt, especially before her wedding. He tried to convince her to wait, but Hyosim didn’t back down. She didn’t want her family to hurt anymore because of their dad. So, she went ahead with the surgery.

But when Taeho came to the hospital later, he found only her empty clothes. He started searching for Hyosim. Now, everyone’s waiting to see where Hyosim has gone in the final episodes of “Live Your Own Life,” airing every weekend at 7:55 PM.
