“Wonderful World” epíode 5: Recap & review
Recap
In the 5th episode, the wife of the man she killed, Kwon Ji-woong (played by Oh Man-seok), has fallen into a coma due to an accident. This revelation comes after finding a website address written on a photo of her husband Kang Soo-ho’s (played by Kim Kang-woo) infidelity. The episode unfolds with a tense encounter between Eun Soo-hyun and Kwon Seon-yul (played by Cha Eun-woo) in Eun-min’s hospital room.
Soo-hyun sends a chilling text to Soo-ho, who entered a hotel room with Hye-geum, saying, “I know who you’re with right now?” which leaves Soo-ho frozen. She then confronts Hye-geum at her home, presenting the infidelity photo and turning away fiercely.
Soo-hyun unleashes her anger on Soo-ho for his betrayal and lies, and Soo-ho is devastated to learn that even his mother-in-law, Go Eun (played by Won Mi-kyung), is aware of his actions. Soo-hyun, unable to forgive Soo-ho, turns to her mom.
Soo-ho seeks out a former detective, Han Sang (played by Sung Ji-ru), who was dismissed while investigating corruption with him involving Kim Jun (played by Park Hyuk-kwon), to investigate the source of the infidelity photo received by Soo-hyun. Meanwhile, Kim Jun stirs trouble by visiting the broadcasting station to meet Soo-ho. Soo-ho confronts him with a cold gaze, hinting at his suspicion that Jun might be the sender of the photo, leading to a tense standoff.
Elsewhere, Soo-hyun visits Seon-yul’s junkyard with a packed lunch. She worries about Seon-yul, who is covered in wounds, and he, in turn, expresses his sorrow upon noticing the scars from a sewing machine on Soo-hyun’s hand. Seon-yul empathizes with her, saying, “I feel the same. These don’t hurt at all,” indicating that the emotional scars of losing family are far deeper than physical ones. Soo-hyun then hands Seon-yul a medicine pouch, showing their growing closeness.
Returning home, Soo-hyun is shocked to realize there’s a difference between the photo she received and the one given to her mom. Only the photo her mother received had a website address on the back. The linked page was an article about a "woman in her 40s hit by a truck while jaywalking." Soo-hyun begins searching for the journalist who wrote it.
Upon meeting the journalist (played by Lee Sun-hee), Soo-hyun is startled to learn that the accident victim is related to her. The journalist hesitantly reveals that the victim’s name is Kim Eun-min, raising questions about their connection.
Meanwhile, Seon-yul, armed with information from Su-jin (played by Yang Hye-ji), locates an illegal gambling den frequently visited by a mysterious man, Min-hyuk (played by Lim Ji-sub). He finds Min-hyuk arguing about being banned from the place just as the police raid it, causing chaos. In the commotion, Seon-yul grabs Min-hyuk’s hand to escape, but Min-hyuk jumps out of a third-floor window, sustaining serious injuries. Seon-yul follows and rushes a bleeding Min-hyuk to the hospital.
At the same time, Soo-hyun recalls the past accident while looking at Eun-min, who lies in a coma in the hospital room. Eun-min turns out to be the wife of Ji-woong, whom Soo-hyun had killed. Overwhelmed with guilt and shock, Soo-hyun trembles as she stands by the bedside. Then, Seon-yul enters the room, adding to her astonishment. The unexpected encounter between Soo-hyun and Seon-yul in the hospital room heightens the suspense as episode 5 ends.
Review
I’m really enjoying this show. It’s intense and moves quickly, with direct confrontations.
Soo-hyun's sister’s way of dealing with her brother-in-law, and his response, weren't appropriate for their relationship. Soo-hyun is deeply hurt after discovering her husband’s affair with their neighbor. She confronted him, saying that no matter his need for comfort, it shouldn't have involved her. The pain and sense of betrayal would be even greater if she learned that her husband had been involved with her own sister, possibly even before their son’s accident and her imprisonment. Although he acts lovingly towards his wife, he seems unable to stay faithful.
Plus, the neighbor has admitted to past events. But she seems to know more than we, the viewers, are aware of.
Also, could it be that the identities between Seon-yul and Min-hyuk have been swapped? Min-hyuk is the boy whose parents died in a fire, and Seonyul is the son of the man she killed? Have you noticed a certain look in Seonyul’s eyes when he sees her, like when she walked away from him—a look of hatred.
It’s not unreasonable to think that he’s getting close to her, opening up to her, possibly to seek revenge in the end. This might have been his plan since he first saw her in jail. Or maybe I’m mistaken, and he really is the son whose parents died in the fire. But then, why hasn’t he read the letters left for him? Is it possible that the letters are not intended for him?
He was searching for that boy after she gave him the journal. Maybe he knew she was mistaken about his identity, so he played along while secretly searching for the boy who should have received the journal.
TLTR: I can’t wait for the next episode!
