“Flex X Cop” episode 5 recap
Do-jun’s confession and Kang-hyun’s dilemma
The episode begins where the previous one left off, with Do-jun striking I-soo on the head and making him fall. Do-Jun reveals that his mentor, Professor Noh, used his paintings to gain fame and then accused him of copying. They get into a fight and Do-jun stabs himself. I-soo rushes him to the hospital, where Kang-hyun shows up. She's angry at I-soo for acting alone and putting himself in danger.
Kang-hyun also faces the wrath of her superiors for failing to protect I-soo. Her senior suggests that she should transfer, referring to her father’s dismissal over bribery charges. Kang-Hyun defends her father and believes he is innocent. The next day, she goes to see Do-jun and asks him about the scarf he had. He says he got it for his professor’s wife. This makes the wife a main suspect. I-soo gets a VIP room for Do-jun in the hospital and finds out that Professor Noh’s safe key is gone.
I-soo informs Kang-hyun about the missing key. They go to meet Hwa-young, Mr. Noh’s wife, who pretends to be clueless. They catch Hwa-Young and her lover trying to open the safe and take them into custody. Later that day, I-soo organizes a special exhibition with the paintings of Mr. Noh’s student who killed herself after he stole her work.
Yi-soo’s family drama and the rice cake mystery
That night, Yi-Soo turns down an offer from his older brother to live near his house. At the same time, their father, Jin Myeong-Cheol, a contender in the Seoul Mayoral Elections, examines his rival Wang Jeong-Tae. Jeong-Tae intends to expose I-Soo’s illegitimacy and his mother’s mysterious death just before the voting day.
The following day, the team investigates a new case, finding a man who died from choking on a rice cake. Kang-Hyun questions the granddaughter, who mentions the missing National Seal of the Korean Empire. Despite doubts from the team, Yi-Soo consults an expert who verifies the seal, connecting it to the dead Choi Sang-Soo.
Meanwhile, Kang-Hyun discovers three more cases of rice cake choking in the area, which were previously considered accidents. She asks her senior for the case files, but he denies, forcing Kang-Hyun to look into the families of the first two victims.
During the investigation, Kang-Hyun and I-Soo notice that valuables like gold, cash, and the seal are missing from the victims’ homes. They identify a pattern and look into the Yeongseong Family Church, where they learn that the lady there has copied an account book. Moreover, when they find CCTV footage and narrow down their suspects, they realize that those two suspects, Park Jae-geun and Go Young-bum, have posed as funeral photographers. What is their motive? We’ll find out soon.
"Flex X Cop" ep 5 review
The relationship between the three real cops and I-soo is gradually improving and it’s nice to watch. Although one cop already has feelings for I-soo, Kang-hyun and the other aren't fond of him. However, after working together on almost 2 cases, they start to trust him more.
On the other hand, we learn more about Kang-hyun’s father’s past and the false accusations. We can see that she's deeply hurt by the way they tarnish her father’s reputation. She's determined to reveal the truth and clear her father’s name.
Yet, I-soo’s history is shrouded in mystery and we still don’t know everything about it. His mother might have been killed as part of a political scheme to win over the public. I-soo also has fuzzy recollections of the past and he might uncover more secrets once his memory returns.
