[Feb 17] “Knight Flower” Episde 12: Rating & Recap

The series finale of MBC’s “Knight Flower” was a historic moment for the network! The action-comedy drama, which aired on February 17, achieved the highest ratings of any episode. Nielsen Korea reported that the final episode of “Knight Flower” had an average rating of 18.4% nationwide, a remarkable increase of 3% from the previous episode.

“Knight Flower” surpassed its own record and set a new one for the highest ratings of any Friday-Saturday drama in MBC history. The former record holder was “The Red Sleeve”, which had an average rating of 17.4% nationwide when it ended in 2022. Plus, “Knight Flower” faced tough competition from SBS’s “Flex x Cop”, which aired at the same time slot. But it still managed to edge ahead.

“Knight Flower” episde 12 recap

The final episode of "Knight Flower" starts with Pil confessing to Su-ho that he was the one who murdered Soong-ho, Yeo-hwa’s brother, a year after he left the city. He says he did it on Seok’s command. Meanwhile, at the palace, Lady Oh dies suddenly and Yeo-hwa breaks down in grief over her brother. Seok taunts the King, knowing that Lady Oh was the only witness who could expose him.

We see a flashback of how Seok killed the previous king. The previous king wanted to end the class system and give everyone a fair chance to succeed. But this angered the nobles and the scholars who wanted to keep their power and privilege.

Su-ho tells Yeo-hwa what Pil told him and she is furious. She goes to see Pil and he confirms that Soong-ho came back to the city a year ago to visit his sister.

How is Seok Ji-seong taken down? 

She decides to kill Seok and attacks him on his way home. Su-ho stops her and tells her that they will bring Seok to justice the right way. They find 2 letters hidden in the sword that Soong-ho left for Yeo-hwa. One is from Soong-ho, apologizing to her. The other is from the late king, with his seal, revealing that Seok poisoned him for opposing his agenda.

They come up with a new plan. Su-ho pretends to be the Masked Man and fake kills Pil. In fact, Yoon-hak sells Pil and Man-sik to a butcher. Bi-chan then acts as the Masked Man, shows Su-ho the letter from the late king, and lets Seok’s man steal it.

Seok thinks he has eliminated all the threats. He brings Prince Ansan to the palace and tries to intimidate the King and show him how easily he can be replaced. But he's in for a surprise. 

Yoon-hak brings all the ministers, along with Yeo-hwa and Su-ho, to the court to accuse Seok of his crimes. Yeo-hwa shows the real letter from the late king to the ministers. She also reveals that she's the Masked Man and that she spared Seok’s life out of mercy. 

Seok is arrested but he still defends his actions. He is stripped of his rank and banished. But Yeo-hwa asks that his family be spared, as they are innocent. 

Does Yeo-hwa stay married to Seok Jeong? 

Next, Yeo-hwa’s status is in question. Everyone is worried that she'll lose her dignity if she divorces Seok Jeong. Su-ho tries to comfort her but she tells him to forget her and move on with his life. 

But Ggotnim has an idea. She says that since Yeo-hwa and Seok Jeong never met during the wedding ceremony, they aren't really married. Jeong makes a fuss and says that he is already married to someone in Qing and that he wasn't there when Seok married him off to Yeo-hwa. He says he can't have two wives and that he wants to annul his marriage to Yeo-hwa. 

The King agrees and plays along. Everyone is happy but not for long. Yeo-hwa leaves without a trace. Before she goes, she thanks Jeong for his help and hugs Lady Yoo, who says sorry to her. 

How does "Knight Flower" end? 

A year passes. Yoon-hak teaches Ggotnim how to read and write. Yeon-sun is the financier of Myungdo. Yoon-hak spends time with her every day as she looks for a house to buy. He takes her to his house and asks her to live with him.

Bi-chan proposes to Yi-kyung, but she says no. She says she likes being his girlfriend more than his wife. Hwang is the Minister of War and Su-ho is the commander. He hears about a human trafficking ring and goes to check it out. 

Jeong has a stall in Myungdo and he attracts customers by telling them the story of Yeo-hwa. Yeo-hwa comes back after a year and sees the kidnappers abducting a woman. Su-ho shows up and chases them away. He catches Yeo-hwa and they tease each other. At the end of "Knight Flower" episode 12, he kisses her.

Review

This funny K-drama has reached its conclusion. Episode 12 of "Knight Flower" ties up all the loose ends and delivers a happy ending. Lady Yoo and Jeong are among the characters who get their redemption arc. Ggotnim, Yeon-sun, and Jang have a bright future ahead. Our secondary couples also find their true happiness.

Yeo-hwa’s departure creates a mini-conflict that is typical of all K-drama endings. She wants to be herself after being a grieving sister, widow, and a Masked Hero. She decides to explore the world that she missed out on for 15 years. 

But this is a rom-com, so everything works out fine. She comes back hilariously and reunites with Su-ho.
