“Wedding Impossible” episodes 11 & 12 (finale): Recap, review
Unraveling secrets & sacrifices
Last week ended with everyone ready to take the blame to protect each other. Ah-jung tried to find Ji-han after his announcement, but it was too late; he had left, ready to end things and hoping she’d forget him. This led to their second breakup, which is confusing.
The other news was that Grandpa knew Do-han’s secret. Now, Grandpa knows Do-han wants to reveal it and tries to stop him. He tells Do-han that confessing would only make him feel better, not help Ji-han and Ah-jung. Do-han feels trapped, whether he confesses or not.
Love, loss & moving on
In the final episodes of “Wedding Impossible,” Ah-jung is struggling. She tells her family the marriage was fake, and she just wanted to be the star for once. She really likes Ji-han. After crying, her mom hugs her, and her family supports her again.
Ji-han decides to leave, telling Do-han he’s responsible for his words to the press and they should part ways. He can’t stand seeing Ah-jung upset by his choice to “save” her, so he goes to the countryside alone, missing her deeply.
Grandpa calls Ah-jung to his office, not to forbid her from seeing his grandsons, but to ask her to marry Do-han. If she doesn’t, Do-han will confess his secret, which could ruin both grandsons. But Ah-jung stands up to Grandpa, saying he should treat his grandkids better and not do wrong things for their sake.
As Ah-jung leaves, Do-han holds his own press conference, admitting the engagement was fake. He’s off to New York, telling Ah-jung goodbye and that he’s doing it for himself, but they’ll remain friends.
Ah-jung, now alone, figures out Ji-han might be in the seaside town where they had a great date. She finds him, and they have a sad date, delaying the inevitable breakup.
Finally, Ah-jung says they’d be unhappy together, questioning why they should reunite when Do-han sacrificed for them. She admits she liked Ji-han and says goodbye, leaving both of them acting nobly but foolishly.
1 year later
After a year, the story shows Ji-han and Ah-jung living separate lives. Ji-han starts his own business away from LJ Group and gets approval from Grandpa.
It’s revealed that the Choi siblings’ father caused their mother’s death, but Grandpa feels it’s his fault because he saved Ji-han from a car accident and couldn’t save his daughter. Grandpa has a hard time looking at Ji-han because it reminds him of his loss. He tells Ji-han he would save him again if he had to.
Ah-jung waits for Ji-han in the rain with a red umbrella on the day they remember his mom. They smile and go for coffee, catching up like old friends. The awkwardness is gone.
Deep down, they still miss each other. Ah-jung is now a known actress, and Ji-han can’t stop watching her shows, longing for her. He pretended to Ah-jung that he only casually saw her dramas on TV, but in truth, he knew almost all her lines by heart like her number one fan. He’s such a sweetheart. He waits outside her place all night, pretending to return her umbrella, but he’s really there because he loves her.
Ji-han drops Ah-jung off at her filming, worried she might get hurt, but gets shocked when she has to film a kissing scene. They joke around, and Ji-han gets jealous, even arguing with her co-star.
Ji-han is upset when he hears Ah-jung might be dating her co-star. After getting drunk, he ends up with Ah-jung, telling her he’s always thought about her and asking her to leave her boyfriend.
In the end, Ah-jung isn’t dating anyone. Being with Ji-han makes her question why she waited so long. Ji-han proposes to her, and they imagine their life together. They’ve already been through a lot, so marriage seems easy.
Na Ah-jung, let's marry me. Even if we fight, we can sleep together with our backs. We can hold hands and watch a late-night movie together. If you doze off in the morning, I can dry your hair for you.
Ah-jung: Not sure, I'm already tired of wedding preparations.
Ji-han: Then that means I'm the right choice. We already met our parents, had a meeting, and lived together. We only need the ceremony. I'm that cost-effective.
They share a sweet moment before we see a wedding scene. Their continuous kisses and bursts of laughter are so heartwarming. They will always be my adorable darlings; I cherish them~.
But it’s not their wedding; it’s just a scene Ah-jung is filming. When it rains, Ji-han pulls her away, and they run off, thinking about how life is full of little lies. In the end, Ah-jung says in her voiceover that she can be real with him and will love him just as he is, without any faking.
I know now that whatever I look like, whatever situation I'm in, I have you by my side. that I can be my true self with you... and I also love you for that. I love you just as you are."
Seeing them in a suit and wedding dress in the rain was breathtaking. She was the solace and cure for his wounds. My dear Ah-ji pair is just so endearing. |
So, it looks like a wedding is really not going to happen in this show, because even after a straight-up proposal, there’s no wedding. That’s just the way their relationship is: quirky, enjoyable, irritating yet cozy. A typical wedding scene just wasn’t in the cards for them!
Jeon Jeong-seo (who plays Ah-jung)’s boyfriend, director Lee Chung-hyun, made a special appearance in "Wedding Impossible" to cheer on his girlfriend. |
In “Wedding Impossible,” the main characters were the best part, with their lively chats and fun teasing (even if they focused too much on Moon Sang-min’s looks). The other main characters were also good, but we wish they had done more with Chae-won’s character after building her up so much.
And having Do-han come back to Korea was a good move, but I wish we could have seen more of what happened after he revealed his secret (We know that’s not the main point of the show, but it felt like just a plot trick).
